Understanding the Product Base

What is a Product Base #

A Product Base is a design Template you setup for any product that you wish to allow your user to add photos, text & shapes to create items they can buy with their newly created designs. A ‘product base’ is required for each product in your shop that you wish to allow customers to design. Typically, each product will require it’s own specific product base, however some Products are nearly the same and thus you can use the same product base for multiple Products. Think of a product base as a blank Template where your customer will be able to create their new design. Just know that you must first create this ‘blank Template’ (a product base) before you can activate product designer features on a product in your shop.

So lets get started, first thing is the Products Base area within the Product Designer Admin Panel. By clicking on the Menu item Product Designer, you’ll be taken to the main Menu of your product designer interface. You’ll then need to click on Products Base Menu item to open the sub-Menu where you can then click All Products Base to view all currently installed product bases within your shop.

Management #

To manage a Product Base, just go to Product Designer Admin panel  > Products Base > All Products Base there you will see all the options and all the product bases already available to you on your site.

In this area, you can see the stages thumbnails of your Products as well as the name, description, status and SKU of your product bases. There are also some search and filter options as well as a Bulk Actions tool to help with Products base management and sorting. 

Bulk Actions allow you to edit, activate, deactivate or delete multiple Products bases at once. Just select the items you want to modify using the check-boxes, then select the action you want to take from the Bulk Actions Menu dropdown box and then click Apply.

  • Active : Make selected Products active and able to be used on your Products
  • Deactive : Hide selected Products from your shop making them unusable for your Products
  • Delete : Completely remove the selected Products bases from your shop. Be careful, they cannot be recovered once you delete them.

Add/Edit Product Base #

To Edit an existing product base, just click on the name of the base in the list to open the editing area, then follow the same steps as outlined below regarding adding a base. Be sure to Save your changes for them to take affect.

To add a new product base, just click on the button Add New Product Base. You will then be taken to the Edit Product Screen which looks something like this:

There are 4 tabs for each product:

  • Details – Basic details about your product base. These are important as they control how your base is used within your shop. 
  • Design – Configuration details of your product base including all stages of the product (front/back/left/right/etc.)
  • Variations – Create all available variations from created attributes.
  • Attributes – Add Variable attributes to this product base to allow for special instructions, sizes available, and so much more. 

1. Details #

There are many fields to put into a product.

  • Name : The name of product which displays on the list. I suggest placing the product SKU in the title to make selecting the correct base later easier. For example, “4311 – 100% Poly T-shirt – White Only” where “4311” is the sku.
  • Price : The base price for this product. The total price of the product will depend on this base price plus any attributes prices or printing methods selected.
  • CMS Product ID: Leave this blank for now, we assign this number later.
  • Description: Short description of this product.
  • Categories: Select one or more Categories this product base belongs to, additional Categories can be added using the Product Categories section.
  • Printing Techniques: Printing methods which can apply to this product base. Additional Printing Techniques can be added using the Printing Type section.
  • Active: Enable/Disable this product base. Set to Disable if you are still working on the base and are not ready for it to be live on your site. Change to Active when ready to go live. 

2. Design #

Our Product Designer supports drag and drop method for you can arrange the print area and size range available to your customer for printing.

  • Allow Change Color
    • No display product color: disable select product for product, it means product just have one color pre-selected
    • Only choose from set of colors: User can change product colors, but they just can choose from set of colors
    • Choose from a set of color and color picker: It’s mean there is not limited to color for this Products. The user can select from a set of colors or put their own via color picker.
  • Set Product Colors: Choose and add colors for product
  • Configure Stages: Setup design area and design base for each stage.

Notice: The great feature on this tab is assign pre templates for stages of the product. It is helpful in case you want to sell directly product or just set default Template to edit for users can start customizing.

3. Attributes #

Product Designer support follows product attribute types:

  • Size – the set of sizes attribute for a product. You can add any size you want
  • Dropdown – a list of dropdown select items of attribute
  • Text : The text box for user can set their notice when add to Cart a product
  • Upload: User can upload their notice via this type attribute
  • Radio: Display list of option for one attribute on product
  • Checkbox: Display list of options for multi-select values on an attribute.

4. Variations

Create Product Variations when you have some attributes by clicking on Add New Variation.

Click on EXPAND to enter more information for each variation.

After filling your content, just press the Save Product Base button to store data.
